Pastor - Wayne Wilson
Pastor Wayne Wilson has been serving Acton Faith Bible Church since 1990. Raised in Indiana, Wayne came to California after High School to study film production in the "film capital of the world". While in film school, Wayne was invited to attend church with some fellow students. After putting off these invitations for a time, he finally went to Grace Community Church in the San Fernando Valley; known for its careful, systematic teaching of the Bible. As Wayne puts it, "I was thrilled that I could understand the Bible for the first time in my life." He immersed himself in the Scriptures, and soon after, in 1978, with a full realization of his own sinfulness and need of a savior, Wayne put his faith in Jesus Christ.
Within the next year, Wayne's desires changed. No longer concerned with being the next John Ford, Wayne felt God's call to pursue full time ministry. He finished up his associate degree and spent a year at Grace Community's Logos Bible Institute. He got involved in ministry at Juvenile Detention facilities and in home Bible studies. Wayne went to Los Angeles Baptist College (now the Master's College) and earned a B.A. in history. There he met Laura, and married her in 1982 - the same day he graduated from college.
After that it was seminary. Wayne completed most of his post-graduate work at Talbot Theological Seminary, then finished up with a Master of Divinity degree at The Master's Seminary. Wayne was in the first graduating class at Master's. During these school years, Wayne served as an Elder and an adult class teacher at Sunland Neighborhood Church in Sunland, CA. Then in 1990 he accepted the call to Acton Faith Bible Church.
Since 2004, Wayne has been teaching part-time at Foothill Institute for Theological Training in Upland. He finds this outlet a means of keeping himself sharp through thoughtful interaction with students wanting to learn the Bible and theology.
After a trip to Haiti in 2005, Wayne got bit by the foreign missions bug. Believing the greatest need in the church worldwide to be pastoral training, Wayne has taught pastors in Russia, China, and Uganda.
As time allows, Wayne also tries to volunteer in the community. He has been a 4-H project leader for many years and a volunteer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. These experiences, he believes, keeps him connected with young people and the world outside the church.
Wayne and Laura have three grown children and love being a part of the Acton community, especially the people here.
Associate Pastor - Marc Boeker
Pastor Marc Boeker was asked to serve as associate pastor in July 2010. While he is a newcomer to the pastoral staff, Marc and his family have been involved with Acton Faith Bible Church for over 10 years. Raised in Kansas as the son of a pastor, Marc had a desire for missions and ministry from a young age. After surviving a severe ski accident as a teenager, Marc was further convinced of God’s call on his life to full-time ministry. He attended Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska and majored in Bible and Intercultural Ministry (missions). It was there he met his wife, Amber. Their married life began with a 6-month mission internship in Mali, West Africa – only one month after their marriage. This time set the foundation of missions and ministry for their life together.
Returning from Mali, Marc and Amber were led to Avant Ministries (formerly Gospel Missionary Union). One month after graduating university they left for Malaga, Spain. There they worked together to support church planting ministries focused on North Africa and Spain. Their responsibilities included English publication design and writing, office system administration including radio and video studios, and care for visiting short-term missionaries. After two years in Spain the mission headquarters asked if they would be willing to serve the greater mission needs back in Kansas City, Missouri for a couple years. Acton Faith Bible Church supported the Boekers as missionaries, which was the beginning of their relationship with our church.
All these events providentially led them to California where Marc began studies at The Master’s Seminary in order to gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word. He earned his Master of Divinity degree in May 2012. The Boekers have benefitted greatly from the teaching and ministry opportunities at Acton Faith, and they are thankful to be a part of what God is doing in this place.
Marc and Amber have four boys: Ethan, Nathaniel, Carter and Aaron. Their responsibilities at Acton Faith Bible Church include teaching the youth, helping with music and worship, mentoring individuals, corresponding with missionaries, and assisting with administrative tasks.
