2 Samuel 5
Why has Jerusalem held such an important place in God’s plan for His people—and ultimately for the coming of Christ?
Pastor Wayne Wilson teaches from 2 Samuel 5, where all twelve tribes of Israel recognize David as God’s chosen king. After years of waiting, David’s kingdom is finally united, and he chooses Jerusalem as its capital.
Jerusalem was still occupied by the Jebusites, who believed their stronghold could never be conquered. Yet David captured the city, established it as the City of David, and made Zion the center of Israel’s national and spiritual life.
This was far more than a political decision. Scripture points forward from David and Jerusalem to Jesus Christ—the promised Son of David and everlasting King. The city David established would become the place where Jesus entered as King, died for sinners, rose from the dead, and will one day reign in fulfillment of God’s promises.
Pastor Wayne also draws an important lesson from David’s battles with the Philistines. Rather than depending upon his own experience or strength, David repeatedly inquired of the Lord and obeyed God’s direction. Christians today seek that same guidance through Scripture, prayer, and godly counsel—bringing every decision under the authority of God’s Word.
