1 Samuel 26–27

How can someone demonstrate remarkable faith one day and then make a fear-driven decision the next?

In 1 Samuel 26, David once again refuses an opportunity to kill Saul. He will not seize the throne through vengeance but trusts God to fulfill His promise in His own time. David recognizes that Saul is the Lord’s anointed and leaves Saul’s life—and his own future—in God’s hands.

Yet in the next chapter, David’s faith falters. Convinced that Saul will eventually kill him, he seeks safety among the Philistines without first seeking the Lord. What begins as a fear-driven decision leads to deception, manipulation, and increasingly troubling compromises.

David’s story reminds us that genuine believers can experience spiritual victories and painful failures. Yesterday’s faithfulness does not remove today’s need to trust God. When we rely on Him, we are freed from fear, dishonesty, manipulation, and the burden of trying to control every outcome ourselves.
