When God is Silent

When God is Silent

1 Samuel 28

What should we do when God seems silent?

Pastor Wayne Wilson teaches from 1 Samuel 28, examining one of the darkest moments in the life of King Saul. Facing an overwhelming Philistine army and receiving no answer from the Lord, Saul refuses to humble himself and repent. Instead, he disguises himself and seeks guidance from the medium at Endor—turning to the very practices God had forbidden.

Pastor Wayne contrasts Saul’s response with David’s words in Psalm 25. When God seems silent, believers are called to pray, examine their hearts, repent of sin, remain obedient to His revealed Word, and wait patiently for Him. God’s silence is never permission to seek guidance through superstition, spiritualism, or other forbidden sources.

Saul wanted direction from God without submitting himself to God. Even when Samuel appeared and repeated God’s judgment, Saul remained terrified but unrepentant. His story warns us that religious words and temporary remorse cannot replace a humble and contrite heart.
God’s mercy is wide, but we must turn toward Him. The path to peace is not manipulation, superstition, or stubbornness—it is repentance, humility, and trust in the Lord.
